E-VEHICLES
Tim Burrows, owner and operator of an E-Vehicle and guest speaker at the March 9 Probus meeting, presented several reasons why your next vehicle should be electric.
FOR CONVENIENCE: Charge your car at home in your garage or at the coast-to coast charging stations, instead of filling up at a gas tank.
FOR ECONOMY: Electricity is much cheaper than gasoline. 100 Km of driving requires $3 for an E-vehicle as opposed to $13 for a gas-powered vehicle.
FOR EFFICIENCY: A combustion engine with 2,000 moving parts is inefficient with only 25% of the energy being used by the car and the rest going off as thermal energy. An E-vehicle has only 18 moving parts and is 88% efficient.
FOR THE ENVIRONMENT: CO2 emissions are less with an E-vehicle.
FOR HI-TECH: Every Tesla is connected to the Internet. An E-vehicle knows the location of chargers and their status, including how many people are there. The phone App can pre-heat and cool the vehicle, even track it. Tesla has opened their network to other car owners.
FOR FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS: The Canadian government has a 0% emissions mandate for new cars. 20% by 2026, 60% by 2030 and 100% by 2035.
FOR LONG ROAD TRIPS: Petro Canada, Canadian Tire, and Tesla have coast-to-coast charging stations.
