An Amazing day at the Brampton Flying Museum
Sixteen members made their way this October to the Brampton Flying Club to have lunch together, followed by a most interesting tour through the Great War Museum next door.Thanks to the impressive knowledge of the volunteer guides, Earl in the hanger and Richard in the memorabilia museum, our experience came alive with their captivating stories.
The hangar has a home built inventory of six Great War planes. ( It was referred to as the Great War, not knowing that another World War (WW 2) would follow. ) Currently the Sopwith Camel biplane is the only one still being worked on. It was an exciting day for us to witness the engine brought to life for the first time in after 10 years of dedicated construction by the volunteers !
The memorabilia museum contained a vast collection of small scale replicas of planes, boats …most of which were handmade by Richard, a previous curator in England. The families of some soldiers have also donated uniforms, metal….and the stories told by Richard were cleverly woven in to let our imagination see what it must have been like to live through this time period. It was difficult to leave as our visit came to an end ! Tina
